New Health Insurance Requirements
Health Insurance Requirements for Domestic Graduate & Professional Students
All graduate students taking 9 credits or more per semester, all graduate assistants taking 6 credits or more, and all Law students taking 12 credits or more, must have health insurance coverage either through UNLV, or the insurance carrier of their choice. What that means is that all full time graduate and professional students will be charged for UNLV student health insurance; if you are able to provide proof that you carry alternate insurance from a non-UNLV provider, you may qualify for a waiver and the UNLV health insurance fee will be removed from your account.
The Student Health Insurance Fee for the Fall 2014 semester is $901.00 which will provide insurance from August 16, 2014 through January 11, 2015. The Student Health Insurance Fee for graduate nursing students for the Fall 2014 semester is $858.60 which provides insurance coverage from August 16, 2014 to January 4, 2015.
The deadline for submitting a waiver for the Fall 2014 semester is September 26, 2014.
New Health Insurance Requirements for Domestic Graduate & Professional Students Starting Fall 2013
In May 2013, the Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA) passed a motion to recommend that all fully admitted graduate and professional students taking 9 credits or more per semester, and all graduate assistants, must have health insurance coverage either through UNLV or their own carrier. In June 2013, the NSHE Board of Regents supported and approved this proposal. As a result, the mandatory hard waiver student health insurance policy is in effect immediately for the Fall 2013 semester.
