Volunteer Opportunities
UNLV offers students several ways to give back to the community. Below are the projects that are coordinated by Rebel Service Council. All of the projects are open to UNLV students, faculty, and staff. Beyond these projects there are numerous opportunities to volunteer in our community. Check out the service project calendar link on the right side of this page.
Alternative Spring Break (ASB) — What more worthwhile way to spend your spring break than with service? Each ASB trip has a focus on a particular social issue, such as (but not limited to) poverty, education reform, refugee resettlement, health, and the environment. Students learn about the social issues and then perform weeklong projects with local nonprofit organizations.
Delivering and Serving Hope (DASH) — Help make, pack, and deliver peanut butter and jelly sandwich lunches to the homeless population at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Open to all UNLV students, faculty, and staff. Select Fridays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Transportation may be provided.
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness — Learn more about the plight of the homeless and the situations that cause it. Participate in various events and programs that will provide you with the knowledge to do your part. Registration may be required. Open to all UNLV students, faculty, and staff.
Make a Difference Day — Celebrated on the fourth Saturday in October each year, Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of service. The day empowers millions of Americans to unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service — Celebrated at UNLV on the third Saturday of each January, MLK Day of Service answers Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for people from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.
Special Projects — These projects are not part of our scheduled programs. They can be anything from relief fundraisers for national and global disasters to walks for disease awareness.
Youth — These events and projects are specifically aimed toward the welfare and education of the youth within the community. Participate in projects like reading to elementary school students, working carnival booths for young children, and encouraging high schoolers in low-income areas to attend college.
