Delivering and Serving Hope (DASH)
DASH seeks to explore hunger and poverty by connecting UNLV students and people experiencing homelessness. By making, packing, and delivering peanut butter and jelly sandwich lunches, we hope to give students a glimpse of the plight of these disenfranchised populations and to give them a way to do something about it. After the program, we hope participants will take their involvement to the next level by seeking other ways to help the homeless community.
DASH is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and staff. Participants must register for each DASH individually. Only individuals who register online will be allowed to participate in the service project. DASH registration can be found in MyUNLV in the Involvement Center; search UNLVolunteers or DASH.
*We ask all participants to support this program by bringing along unopened peanut butter, unopened jelly, and/or individually packaged boxes of granola bars/chips/crackers.

We make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pack them into brown paper lunch bags with fruit and granola bars or bags of chips. We only have 40 volunteer spots available for each DASH and they go fast, so please register early. DASH supplies are funded by the Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity. We always welcome supplies, such as peanut butter, jelly, bread, individually packaged chips, granola bars, and cases of water bottles.
We deliver our lunches at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Delivery is often the most touching and rewarding part of DASH, as it allows students to have direct contact with people experiencing homelessness in a way that can be more safe and comfortable for them. We only take 10 participants to deliver each DASH, so sign up early on the Involvement Center in MyUNLV . Participants are only allowed to deliver once per year with the DASH program in order to allow multiple individuals to gain the amazing experience of delivering food to the gracious population of persons experiencing homelessness we serve.
Transportation will be provided on a limited basis for those wishing to help deliver. Because of the limited amount of space we have, we may need groups of participants to carpool to the delivery location.
If your organization would like to participate in an already-scheduled DASH, you must be in contact with program staff in advance (email@example.com) to verify that there is room since this program is in high demand. Your organization members must sign up in advance on the Involvement Center in MyUNLV. And your organization or members must provide donations of goods to make lunches (peanut butter, jelly, and/or individually packaged granola bars, chips or crackers).
If your organization would like to sponsor your own DASH event at a different date and time, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Your organization will be responsible for marketing, funding, and delivery of the lunches.
