Delivering and Serving Hope (DASH)

DASH seeks to address the problems of hunger and poverty by bridging the gap between UNLV students and the homeless population. By making, packing, and delivering peanut butter and jelly sandwich lunches, we hope to give students a glimpse of the plight of these disenfranchised populations and to give them a way to do something about it. After the program, we hope participants will take their involvement to the next level by seeking other ways to help the homeless community.

Registration

DASH is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and staff. Participants must register for each DASH individually. Only individuals who register online will be allowed to participate in the service project. Below are the links for each DASH registration page.

Sandwich Making

We make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pack them into brown paper lunch bags with granola bars and bags of chips. We only have 40 volunteer spots available for each DASH and they go fast, so please register early. DASH supplies are funded by the Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity. We always welcome supplies, such as peanut butter, jelly, bread, individually packaged chips, granola bars, and cases of water bottles.

Delivery

We deliver our lunches at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Delivery is often the most touching and rewarding part of DASH, as it allows students to have direct contact with the homeless in a way that is safe and comfortable for them. We only take 10 participants to deliver each DASH, so sign up early. Participants are only allowed to deliver once per year with the DASH program in order to allow multiple individuals to gain the amazing experience of delivering food to the gracious homeless population we serve.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided on a limited basis for those wishing to help deliver. Because of the limited amount of space we have, we may need groups of participants to carpool to the delivery location.

Organization-Sponsored DASH

If your organization would like to sponsor your own DASH event at a different date and time, please contact unlv.hunger@gmail.com. Your organization will be responsible for marketing, funding, and delivery of the lunches.
