Project THREAD is designed to make technology
infusion a systemic part of preservice teacher education in
Southern Nevada. The consortium for the project includes the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), the Clark County School District (CCSD), St. Viator's
School, and Apple Computer.
In addition, it involves a growing collaboration among various
entities at UNLV, the project's lead organization, including
the College of Education, Special Education, Field Placement,
the Teaching and Learning Center, the Urban Teaching Project,
and the Curriculum and Materials Library.
The consortium's overarching goal is to prepare preservice
teachers to integrate modern technologies to significantly
enhance teaching and learning in K-12 schools. We have worked
to meet this goal by implementing the following programs:
a systematic planning model based on the ISTE
Foundation Standards, comprehensive professional development
for university faculty and K-12 mentor teachers; one-on-one
follow-up support provided by project staff; a "mini-grant"
program that supports the development of technology-based
course modules; targeted technology-infused courses; a
coordinated field placement system that promotes placements
with technology-using mentor teachers; (pdf file,
6k) and expanded access to technology-rich learning experiences
throughout UNLV's teacher preparation program.
