Mini-Grants - Project Showcase

One of Project THREAD's goals is to enhance the way university faculty use technology in their own teaching practice. We were able to observe how 21 faculty plan to do just that at the Mini Grant Project Showcase.

RR ApacheOn August 15 and 16, 13 College of Education faculty members 8 outside of the college presented their Mini Grant projects to faculty and staff from across the University. Three of the projects were delivered by digital movie, the rest were set up "science fair style" so that everyone was able to share and collaborate with the others.

Cindy Giorgis and Charles MaEach of the individuals were Mini Grant recipients from Project THREAD. In Spring 2002 each faculty member had submitted a proposal for the work they intended to do for a Mini Grant project. The mini-grant program consisted of a comprehsive professional development "Summer Institute", a stipend, workshop materials and support. Project THREAD and the University Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) provided support in the development of these learning activities.

During the Project Showcase faculty members demonstrated and shared how they have designed new ways to use and model computer technology in their classes. There was lots of energy in the air as professors shared their work and compared the process they went through during the summer to get them to this point. All of the presentations were video taped and available on the Project THREAD web site. For more information about the individual projects visit http://education.nevada.edu/thread/mg/
