Setting up MS Outlook Express
These instructions were written using Outlook Express
version 5.0. To configure your settings in Outlook Express,
choose Tools Accounts... from the menu bar. This
displays the Internet Accounts dialog box, shown below.
Click on the Mail tab, and then choose Add
Mail. |
|
The Internet Connection Wizard displays, as shown below.
In the Display name: field, enter your name as you would
like it to appear in the From field of messages that you
send. Click the Next button. |
|
In the next window that displays, enter your Internet
e-mail address and click the Next button, as shown
below. |
|
In the following screen, indicate that your incoming mail
server is a POP3 server, and specify your incoming and
outgoing mail servers in the spaces provided. Click the
Next button. |
|
Enter your mail server (POP3) user name in the Account
name: field. If necessary, remove the checkmark next to
Remember password. Click the Next button. |
|
In the next screen, click the Finish button. |
|
Your new account will be displayed in the Internet Accounts
dialog box. With POP3, your messages are downloaded from
the server to your local hard drive. By default, Outlook
Express removes messages from the server once they are
received. If you want to change this setting, select your
mail account and click the Properties button, as shown
below. |
|
In the Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
To have Outlook Express leave copies of downloaded messages
on the server--e.g., so that you can later access them
from a different location--place a checkmark next to Leave
a copy of messages on server. Below this checkbox, you
can specify additional settings for removing messages
from the server. When you're done, click OK. |
Note to Outlook Express Users: When using Outlook
Express to Reply to messages from UNLV Notes Mail users, you
will need to change the address in the to field to the person's
Internet email address (e.g., jdoe@ccmail.nevada.edu) before
sending. Messages that are addressed to a Notes email address
(e.g., Jane Doe/UNLV) will not be sent and will result in
an STMP error message.
