Quick Start Guide to Macromedia's Fireworks
Object manipulation tools
| The first two manipulation
tools, Transform and Freeform, are used to change different
types of objects. The transform tool is used to modify
the size and shape of two-dimensional objects while the
freeform tool is used to change paths of lines. |
|
| The Eyedropper tool is
used to select change the active color by sampling it
from the screen. For example, if I want to change the
active color to the same shade of blue found in a rectangle
I made earlier, I click the eyedropper tool and then click
the rectangle. |
|
| The Paint Bucket tool
is likely a familiar tool. This tool changes the fill
color of an object to the active fill color (visible at
the bottom of the Toolbox. |
|
| The Erase tool also behaves
in a familiar manner. This is another pixel based tool
that will erase the pixels that come in contact with the
eraser. |
|
| The Stamp tool is useful
for replicating an area of an image on another area. Think
of it as the acne-removal tool. Select the stamp tool
and position the stamp over blemish while the window area
of the tool is over a clear area. Clicking the mouse button
will replace the blemish with a copy of the clear area.

Web tools
| The last two tools found
on the tool box, the Hotspot and Slice tools, are used
to make image maps and multi-segment images respectively.
An image map is used to make different portions of an
image hyperlinked to files pertinent to the clicked area.
For example, an image of the United States could send
users to pages that describe the state the select on the
image. The slice tool is used to break up large images
into smaller, faster loading images. Note that the selection
at the very bottom of the tool bar allows you to hide/view
hotspots and slices. |
|
Color
| The next to controls manipulate
the color of the Stroke and Fill respectively. For example,
by select a rectangle object, the stroke control will
change the border color, the fill control will change
the color of everything inside the border. |
|
| The next two buttons below
these controls allow you to return the colors to the default
or switch the stroke and fill color. |
