Project THREAD Faculty Resources

Faculty Resources - Course Redesign

COE Cornerstone Course

The primary target course during this time has been the ICE450 - Strategies for Effective Elementary Teaching. THREAD CO-PI have been working with these instructors individually as their needs are diverse. Instructor1 has been working to integrate the Internet into his course by developing and maintaining a web site that contains his syllabus and applicable resources. Instructor 2 and 3have been teaching a section of the target course that is combined with the introductory educational computing course and thus have been doing a good deal of technology integration. My direct work with them during the spring semester has been limited. They have expressed an interest in learning more about Imovie yet workshops have not yet been scheduled. The Project THREAD technical assistant and the Co PI reviewed video editing software and uses in hopes of finding a cross-platform video editing solution for preservice teacher education courses. MGI's Videowave and Photosuite have been identified as suitable PC equivalents, they are not cross platform and they are not free. Microsoft's MovieMaker (available free on with Windows XP) and Microsoft Producer were also previewed but it appears that it does not support .mov files, which makes its usability limited. I've been working with the C&I chair to design the new faculty lounge. The Video Editing station purchased by Project THREAD will be moved into the room once security issues are adequately addressed. The CO-PI haso met a number of times with participants from last year's cornerstone courses (EPY 303 and 451) on the continued implementation of some of the developed materials as well as supporting new initiatives (including a Web based version of EPY 451).

University Cornerstone Courses

Outside the COE, the cornerstone courses were identified through a proposal and review process by leadership team consisting of representatives from Project THREAD and University Teaching and Learning Center during the fall semester. The courses selected were ENV 101-Environmental Science and SOC 101-Sociology. The two groups are at different stages. Both have completed a WebCT Training series offered in January by the University Teaching and Learning Center (TLC). A representative of the TLC met with each team individually in February to start the planning process for their projects. The ENV team is pretty set on what they will be doing and a member of the SOC team is drafting a memo to outline their project. The SOC group and TLC met to talk about strategies for engaging students using WebCT. Both teams are targeting a Fall 2002 implementation.
