Course Expectations
Oboe Repertoire Class is conceived as a supplement to your applied lessons. Classes will consist of discussions of repertoire from the solo, ensemble, or orchestral literature; student performances and critiques; and other special sessions such as reedmaking, sight-reading clinics, and ensemble playing.
Course Requirements
Students are expected to use the class as a resource. Therefore, attendance is mandatory for anyone taking major lessons at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each student must perform in class at least twice (more performances strongly encouraged).
Department Policies
The Oboe Repertoire class functions as a preliminary performance setting for all degree-required recitals including Jr. Recital (MUS 398), Sr. Recital (MUS 498), Graduate Recital (MUS 798) and Convocation performances. All performances scheduled for the above recitals must be performed in the repertoire class prior to the recital. Performances scheduled for a Wednesday Convocation, for example, must be aired in the repertoire class by the previous Friday at the latest. Each Rep Class should be treated like a lesson--students are expected to be completely prepared. If a student is performing a work written with piano accompaniment, then the student must schedule an accompanist to be at the Rep Class.
Grading
Pass/Fail depending on student attendance, participation and performance record. Grade is recorded as part of the applied lesson grade. Should the student fail to pass any portion of the applied lesson - Progress, Jury, Repertoire Class - the entire final grade for applied will be a failure.
Attendance Policy
No more than two unexcused absences during the semester will be allowed.
Failure to give a scheduled performance will count as an unexcused absence. Students who miss more than two classes unexcused will not pass Oboe Repertoire class.
