5th Annual 48-Hour Short Film Contest

The 5th annual 48-Hour Short Film Contest will be held from Friday, November 7th through Sunday, November 9th on the campus of UNLV.
Entry Deadline is 5pm, Wednesday, October 29, 2008.

Press Release: 2008 Taiwan Film Festival

The UNLV Film Department and the UNLV Short Film Archive will co-host the 2008 Taiwan Film Festival Friday, October 24 through Sunday, October 26 on the campus of UNLV.

The screening series showcases eight prominent feature and documentary films that reflect the quality, range, and vitality of contemporary Taiwanese filmmaking. Filmmakers and stars of the works will be in attendance for post-screening Q & A.

The 2008 Taiwan Film Festival, presented by the Chuan-Lyu Foundation, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco and Asia Society Northern California, is part of a traveling festival that includes the University of San Francisco, Stanford University, University of Washington, Seattle, University of Oregon in Eugene and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

There will be a reception and a recital on Saturday, October 25 at 5pm at the Margorie Barrick Museum. Singer-Songwriter and lead actress from Summer’s Tail and bassist Yeh Wan-Ching will perform.

All screenings will be in CBC A-106.

The Film Department of the University of Nevada Las Vegas is pleased to announce the Fall open casting call for its Film Production II and III projects. This unique opportunity will present actors of all types and experience with the chance to collaborate with the successful filmmakers of tomorrow. A “meal & reel deal” is included on all productions (on-set catering and a copy of the finished film for future auditions). Spring Flicks 2008 Winners

On May 2 and 3, 2008, the UNLV Film Department and the Short Film Archive held the annual Spring Flicks 2008 honoring the best short films made during the past year. The four Jury judges were UNLV film professors Michael Tylo, George Wang and Jason Edmiston and Brian O’Hare from the Nevada Film Commission.

The next UNLV Film Department and the Short Film Archive filmmaker event will be the 48-Hour 2008 Short Film Contest to be held in October, 2008. Information can be found on the website: http://www.shortfilmarchive.unlv.edu.

UNLV Spring Flicks 2008 Screenings

Spring Flicks 2008 will be held on Friday & Saturday, May 2-3, 2008 at the UNLV campus in room CBC A106. The screenings - with four judges present - will start at 7pm and go until about 10:30pm. At the end of the screenings on Friday, Audience Award ballots will be passed out - and collected.

On Saturday, after the last screening, Audience award ballots will be passed out - and the short film with the highest number of votes from both nights will be the Audience Award winner. The Awards Ceremony will begin immediately after all the Jury voting has been tabulated.

Here are the list of the shorts - NOT in the order that they will be screened - but on the days they will be screened.

UNLV Spring Flicks 2008

The Department of Film and the UNLV Short Film Archive are pleased to present Spring Flicks 2008. Spring Flicks is open to UNLV student filmmakers and other filmmakers throughout the world. The Spring Flicks screenings will be held on Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd. All entry forms, along with the $35 entry fee, are due at UNLV Performing Box Office no later than Friday, April 4th, 2008 by 5pm. All films are due in the Film Dept. no later than Friday, April 25th by 5pm.

DATES: Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd.
TIMES: 7pm-10pm (both nights, awards presentation held on Saturday Night)
LOCATION: UNLV Campus - CBC A106

UNLV Short Film Archive 48-Hour Short Film Contest

The UNLV Short Film Archive and the Film Dept. are sponsoring the Fourth Annual 48-HOUR SHORT FILM CONTEST in Las Vegas, Nevada. This Fundraiser Event is open to anyone who will be in Las Vegas the weekend of November 9-11. Each Participant (or team) will write, shoot and edit a film no less than 1 minute and no more than 5 min in 48 hours.

Dates: November 9, 2007 (Friday) to November 11, 2007 (Sunday).
Filmmakers meet at 5:30pm – Sharp!, November 9, 2007 (Friday) to pick up assignment information. UNLV campus – CBC A-106 (Classroom Building Complex - #58 on the UNLV Campus Map) Production begins at 6pm.
Each contestant (or team) will be given: a genre for the film, a character, a prop and a line of dialogue that must appear in each film.
Contestants (or teams) must bring finished films to CBC A-106 by 5:30pm, Sunday, November 11, 2007.
Contest Prize’s will be awarded at the end of the marathon screening starting at 6:00 on November 11.
