Welcome Message to the Campus
To the campus community:
Happy New Year to all of you! I am excited to be here at UNLV, and I’m honored to start 2015 as your president. I was attracted to UNLV because of the faculty, staff, students and alumni, and the opportunities we have in front of us.
Those opportunities include becoming a Tier One institution, establishing UNLV School of Medicine, becoming a research powerhouse, increasing the value of a UNLV degree, and spearheading Nevada’s economic diversification. We come together at a pivotal time for the university, our community, and our state. Whether it's providing a stellar educational environment for our students, supporting faculty research and creative activities or ensuring all of our employees have the necessary support, we go on this journey as a team.
We will celebrate our academic accomplishments, fight hard for the resources we need, and cheer on our students, whether they are achieving national prominence in STEM fields, the humanities, business, law, fine arts or other areas. Athletics is also part of the overall university experience and a window — both locally and nationally — through which many see and form opinions about us.
Over the next few months, I will reach out to as many individuals as possible — on and off campus — to hear what you have to say about how UNLV can grow and respond to the needs of our students, our faculty, our staff, our community, and our state. I plan to do a lot of listening and learning, and I look forward to meeting and working with you. I also want to thank President Snyder and his entire team for their strong leadership during his term, and his contributions toward a smooth transition.
Thank you for so warmly welcoming Kristi and me to UNLV. We are finding that the Rebel culture is not only entrepreneurial but also generous, and we very much appreciate your kindness.
