Susan Zhong

Yun Ying Zhong currently is a second-year PhD student in the world-renown Harrah College of Hotel Administration at UNLV. She came to the United States from China in 2005 to participate in the one-year Walt Disney World International Program. Fascinated by her wonderful experience in Disney World, she pursued her Master Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at University of Central Florida, and decided to embark on her current PhD education journey. Her future goal is to become an inspiring professor, who works hand in hand with students, hospitality companies and research institutes to create many magical tourism experiences to guests.

Yun Ying truly believes that it is a privilege for her to study Hotel Administration at UNLV, and she works hard to uphold her three pillars of academic life: learning, research, and service. Academically, she maintains a GPA of 4.0, and she was awarded with Hilton Research Grant (2013) as well as various scholarships including UNLV Access Grant (2011-2013), HFTP scholarship (2011-2013), Weinberger Endowment Scholarship (2012-2013), and UNLVino Scholarship (2011-2102). In 2012, she won the “Best Paper Award” at the Annual Graduate Students Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism Management, an important conference in this field. She was also awarded the Second Place and the First Place in poster presentation at the GPSA Research Forum in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Besides study and research, Yun Ying also actively involves in various student organizations on campus. Currently, Yun Ying represents the Hotel College in the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA). She serves on the GPSA Sponsorship Committee and Award Committee. Yun Ying also served as Treasurer of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professional Association (HFTP), UNLV chapter between 2011 and 2013. She also represented UNLV twice to volunteer in the HITEC trade show, one of the largest hotel technology shows in the world organized by HFTP. During her free time, Yun Ying enjoys some time alone as well as some time with friends. She likes reading, watching movies and documentaries, running, hiking, shopping and travelling.
