Dr. Sue Schuerman was born and raised in rural Nebraska. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in 1975, her Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 1990, and her PhD from UNMC in 1997. Dr. Schuerman practiced in acute care, outpatient, rehabilitation, and home health. She has also served in several management positions in rehabilitation and has been an active volunteer with the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Schuerman joined the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Department of Physical Therapy in 2000 as a guest lecturer and then joined the Department full time in 2005. She is an ABPTS Certified Specialist in Geriatrics.

Research Interests

Dr. Schuerman is interested in interventions that reduce biomechanical imbalances in older women who are overweight and have knee osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and decreased strength and balance. She hopes to identify the most effective physical therapy interventions that will encourage these adults to remain active in their communities, thereby enabling them to maintain a high quality of life.
