Biography

Dr. Sarah Tanford teaches strategic management and research methods as an assistant professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a certified hospitality educator (CHE). She brings more than 15 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industries to the program. Her experience includes management positions in business strategy and corporate planning at Harrah’s Entertainment, as well as previous employment with Sabre in travel distribution.

Dr. Sarah Tanford, Ph.D., came to UNLV with seven years of experience in the casino industry with Harrah’s Entertainment, where she held management positions in corporate planning and business strategy. As part of her responsibilities, she analyzed the revenue potential of new business opportunities and property expansions, and evaluated the impact of legislative and competitive changes in all of Harrah’s markets.

Dr. Tanford teaches the capstone strategic management class and graduate-level research methods. She is a two-time fellow of the Hotel College Faculty Institute for Curriculum Design. Her research areas include hospitality marketing, customer loyalty, gaming analysis, sustainable practices and social media. She has published articles in several top tier journals including Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research and Journal of Travel Research. She serves on the research advisory board for the Harrah Hotel College.
