Biography

Necole Leland is an Assistant Professor – Faculty in Residence within the School of Nursing at UNLV. She joined the faculty in 2011 and teaches primarily in the undergraduate nursing programs. She serves as an advisor to students, chairs DNP committees, and is the secretary of the School of Nursing Student Affairs Committee and a member of the UNLV Student Conduct Board. Leland has presented her work at various conferences. She is currently working on publication of her work.

Expertise

Leland’s clinical practice has focused on various pediatric populations in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

Classes Taught

Her teaching experience also includes health assessment, fundamentals, community nursing, communications, and end of program preceptorship. Leland’s research interests include patient safety, communication, and simulation.

Education Background

Leland completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) focusing in Educational Leadership in 2019. She received both her baccalaureate in nursing and a master’s in nursing degree focusing in pediatric nurse practitioner from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Leland also completed a post-master’s certificate in nursing education at UNLV in 2013. She is certified in the specialty of pediatric nursing from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.

Research or Scholarship

Leland’s research interests include patient safety, communication, and simulation. Her doctoral project focused on the implementation of patient safety education in undergraduate nursing.

She is also the chair of the succession committee for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society – Zeta Kappa Chapter.
