Aimee Zygmonski
Biography
Aimee’s scholarly interests lie at the intersections of African American Theatre and historical iconography with a focus on playwrights Kia Corthron and Lynn Nottage. Her published essays and reviews appear in The Cambridge Companion to African American Theatre, Post-Soul Satire: An Interdisciplinary Critical Overview, Theatre Journal, and Theatre Research International. Forthcoming research theorizes on the performance of celebrity chefs and food bloggers. She is an active member of both higher education professional organizations, ATHE and ASTR, where she has served on the board of the Black Theatre Association (ATHE) and currently serves as the Associate Editor for Member Resources for ASTR Online. As a dramaturg, Aimee has worked with directors Kyle Donnelly (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone), playwrights Robert O’Hara (Good Breeding) and Chay Yew (Gum), among others; and has directed students at University of California, San Diego; Virginia Commonwealth University, and various off-of Broadway venues in New York. Before coming to academia, Aimee worked for La Jolla Playhouse, Roundabout Theatre Company, New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the Martha Graham Dance Company. She holds at PhD from University of California, San Diego, an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a BFA from Emerson College.
