The Section on Intergovernmental Administration and Management (SIAM) seeks to promote and encourage the study, understanding, and improvement of the intergovernmental system, its infrastructure, and related cooperative and coordinative efforts of all levels of government and the private sector.

The Section on Intergovernmental Administration and Management (SIAM) serves members with a professional interest in grant acquisition and administration, intergovernmental policy and management, state and local government, and the effective interaction among the various levels of government as well as between the public, not-for-profit, and for-profit sectors. SIAM, which was chartered in 1979, is one of the most distinguished sections within the American Society for Public Administration in terms of the contributions SIAM members have made to the profession of public management, to the practice and study of intergovernmental relations, and to the management of state and local governments. About 70% of SIAM's members are professionals who work for cities (25%), counties (14%), state governments (13%), and the national government (10%); about 20% of SIAM's members are university-based.
