Summer College Institute Financial Assistance Form

Applications for financial assistance to attend a summer college debate institute will be made by a three person “Debate Scholarship Committee.” The three members will include The Director of Debate, The Chair of the Department of Communication Studies, and one faculty member from the Department of Communication Studies to be appointed by the Chair.

Each year the Debate Scholarship Committee will award stipends (to offset the cost of attending a summer college debate institute) of no more than $300 to no more than two students who meet the following criteria:

    All criteria required to qualify for a debate scholarship (as outlined in the Debate Scholarship Policy Statement, on file with Director of Debate)

    Active participation in the Sanford I. Berman Debate Forum in the academic year immediately following their attendance at the summer college debate institute.

Applicants for debate scholarships must submit a letter that outlines the following:

    Financial need

    The reason that the student wishes to attend a summer college debate institute

    The student’s level of interest, enthusiasm for debate, work ethic, etc.
