Undergraduate Admissions

Note: Undergraduate students interested in applying to the School of Nursing must meet the admissions requirements for UNLV. Please note, completing the university’s admission requirements and registering as a pre-nursing student does not guarantee admission to the nursing program.

Admissions: Step One

Admissions: Step Two

  • Maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 during the pre-nursing semesters (Transfer students see section below).
  • Earn a grade of “B” or better for the following prerequisite courses (two attempts only):
    • MATH 120 - Fundamentals of College Mathematics or MATH 124 - College Algebra
    • BIOL 223/224 - Anatomy and Physiology
    • BIOL 251 – Microbiology
    • NURS 299 - Nutrition and Development Across the Lifespan.
  • Earn a grade of “C” or better in all other general education and prerequisite courses.
  • Achieve a score of 75 percent or better on the first or second completion of the HESI A2 exam.
  • Complete a School of Nursing admission application.
  • Schedule an appointment with an advisor to review and approve the application. Advisors are responsible for submitting admission applications.

Transfer Students

Undergraduate transfer students will be considered for admission if the following conditions are met:

  • Students with a transfer GPA is 3.0 or better:
    • Prerequisite course work has been completed and the required grades have been earned.
    • HESI A2 exam scores are 75 percent or better in each subject area.
  • Students with a transfer GPA of 2.5 to 2.99:
    • Nine credits of UNLV core requirements or prerequisite course work is completed, earning a GPA of 3.0 or better.
    • HESI A2 exam scores are 75 percent or better in each subject area.
  • Students with a transfer GPA of 2.0 to 2.49:
    • Students must complete a probationary contract.
    • Fifteen credits of UNLV core requirements or prerequisite course work is completed, earning a GPA of 3.0 or better to remove probationary status.
    • HESI A2 exam scores are 75 percent or better in each subject area.

Admitted Students

Once admitted to the school, students must complete a checklist of items that includes providing evidence of vaccinations, passing a drug screen, and completing a background check, before they can begin classes.
