Pre-Nursing Overview

Pre-nursing courses prepare students for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The degree provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, competencies, and attitudes of the professional nurse by developing skills in individuals, families and groups.

The nursing program requires completion of the core requirements of the university and prerequisite course work before enrolling in the upper-division nursing courses. Nursing course work builds on the prerequisites and integrates theoretical and clinical knowledge.

Students are admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in fall, summer and spring semesters. Students interested in the baccalaureate program apply and signify on the application form "Pre-Nursing Major."

Pre-nursing students, both full-time and part-time, are required to meet with an advisor in the Health Science Advisement Center to develop a schedule of pre-nursing courses.

This schedule details courses that the student must complete to be eligible for admission to the nursing program. When all prerequisites are completed and you have taken your HESI A2 exam, you are ready to apply to the School of Nursing.
