Join the College of Liberal Arts in the University Forum Lecture, "Indigenous Encounters in the Pacific: Native Hawaiians, Native Americans and a Globalizing World" a talk by David Chang, associate professor, History and American Indian Studies, University of Minnesota.
This presentation explores the meanings that Native Hawaiians invested in their encounters with American Indians in the 19th century American West. Using Hawaiian language newspapers and face-to-face encounters, this presentation demonstrates how relations between Native Hawaiians and American Indians, surprising in their depth and range, provide a window onto how indigenous people understood their place in a broader world dominated by colonial and imperial powers.
This event is free and open to the public.
