
Preparing for college is an exciting time. To make your first semester at UNLV a successful one, make sure you complete these essential next steps.
1. Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships
If you need help paying for college, you're not alone. Last year, more than 20,000 UNLV students used loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study programs to help pay for their college expenses.
2. Apply for Nevada Residency
Students who have graduated from a Nevada high school are considered residents of Nevada and are eligible for in-state tuition. Even if you do not meet this criteria, you may still be eligible for Nevada residency. Visit unlv.edu/admissions/residency to learn more.
3. Apply for On-Campus Housing
When you live on campus, you get more than a bed and desk. Live in one of UNLV's 11 residence halls and become a part of a diverse living environment where you can experience award-winning programs and events. You'll have the best access to campus resources while becoming part of a unique community of students from across the country and around the world.
First-Year Student Housing Requirement
All first-time freshmen enrolled in more than six credits who graduated from high schools outside of Clark County, Nevada, are required to live on campus during their freshman year.
4. Apply to the Honors College
Are you looking to take your collegiate career to a higher level? Check out the Honors College. This highly selective college offers an innovative liberal arts curriculum with small classes of 15-20 students. Admission to this college requires a separate application.
5. Transfer Credits From Another College or University
If you have earned college credit from UNLV, you have automatic will have access to the Degree Audit Report System (DARS) and can see if your transfer credits were accepted.
Your L number is your student ID number and is listed on your acceptance letter. You'll need this to schedule your classes, sign up for SOAR, purchase a parking permit and more.
