UNLV, PARTNERS TO SET NEW STANDARD FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WITH NEW LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY COMBINES GREEN BUILDING, SMART GRID TECHNOLOGY TO SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE HOME ENERGY COSTS

WHAT: The UNLV Center for Energy Research, in partnership with Pulte Homes and NV Energy, will unveil the development of a new community of homes in Northwest Las Vegas that combines energy efficient features and advanced metering technology to dramatically reduce energy usage.

WHEN: Friday, January 9, 2009 at 1 p.m. (media/VIP grand opening)
Note: Public Grand Opening will be on Saturday, January 10 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: The Pavilion at Villa Trieste by Pulte Homes
1918 Morro Vista Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89135
West of 215 Beltway off Charleston Blvd.

DETAILS: Representatives from UNLV, Clark County, the City of Las Vegas, U.S. Department of Energy, NV Energy and Pulte Homes will all be in attendance for a ceremony to unveil the four energy efficient model homes of Villa Trieste, expected to be one of the most energy efficient communities in the Southwest.

Continued population growth in the Desert Southwest has led to a strain on the region’s electrical grids, resulting in higher residential energy costs and in some cases electricity overloads and black outs.

UNLV and partners Pulte Homes and NV Energy received approximately $7 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2008 to develop a demonstration project – a community of homes – that combine energy efficient features and smart grid technology to cut residential energy usage by more than half.
