Updated Procedures for “Exempt” Status Human Subjects Research
Posted: July 9, 2014
The Office of Research Integrity-Human Subjects (ORI-HS) is pleased to announce updated procedures for reviewing studies that meet the criteria for “exempt” status.
Human subjects research may qualify for exempt status if it meets one of the six definitions established by federal regulation, such as survey procedures in which the participants cannot be identified.
The process for some exempt procedures has also been streamlined for the convenience of researchers. For instance, they can now submit change requests via email. These changes do not apply to other types of review.
ORI-HS human research coordinator Christa Esparza will now be the single point of contact for exempt protocols. She may be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or (702) 895-2794.
