UNLV Submits Knowledge Fund Proposals
Posted: September 18, 2013
UNLV has submitted three Knowledge Fund proposals seeking state funds for the following three initiatives: the UNLV Institute for Quantitative Health Sciences, the Center for Gaming Innovation, and UNLV Unmanned Aerial Systems. The Knowledge Fund, which was created by the Nevada Legislature in the 2011 but funded for the first time this year, was established in conjunction with the restructuring of Nevada's economic development. The purpose of the fund is to promote research and the commercialization of that research in areas the state has targeted for economic growth. The Knowledge Fund provides grants of funds in five allowable areas, including: 1) establishing technology outreach programs throughout the state; 2) recruiting, hiring, and retaining research teams and faculty; 3) research laboratories and related equipment; 4) construction of research facilities; and 5) matching funds for federal and private-sector grants and contract opportunities.
