Applicant Requirements

Academic and administrative faculty members are eligible to apply for the Leadership Development Academy. Academic faculty applicants must be tenured and hold at least the rank of associate professor. Faculty-in-Residence applicants must have at least six years of service to UNLV. Administrative faculty applicants must have held the status of administrative faculty for at least two years. Preference will be given to those who have worked at UNLV for at least six years and to those applicants whose curricula vitae or résumés reflect a strong potential for higher-level leadership. At this time, unfortunately, we cannot consider classified staff for this program, but we are working on ways to provide additional leadership training for classified staff.

Application Procedures

Please submit the following application materials in electronic format (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF) to Nancy Rapoport at no later than 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014:

  • Letter of support from the applicant's supervisor or department chair, including a statement of whether the supervisor or department chair will be able to provide the applicant a quarter time workload reassignment to the fellowship during the 2014-2015 fellowship year.
  • Personal statement of two to three double-spaced pages discussing (a) the applicant's thoughts on challenges facing universities and how UNLV should engage those challenges and (b) how UNLV should respond specifically to southern Nevada's changing economy and demographics.
  • Résumé or curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of professional recommendation from someone other than the applicant’s supervisor or department chair.  Each letter should address the applicant's potential as a leader in higher education.

We will announce the 2014-2015 Leadership Development Academy Fellows before the end of May.

Please direct questions to Nancy Rapoport.
