Subsidized & Unsubsidized Student Loan Acceptances 2013-2014

Posted: March 8, 2013

IMPORTANT Student Loan Information for the 2013-2014 School Year:

The Budget Control Act of 2011 mandated Federal budget savings. Congress has failed to develop a budget deficit reduction plan if a 2013-2014 Federal Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized student loan has been offered to you. Automatic budget cuts known as "sequestration" has increased student loan origination fees.

Congress has the authority to revert student loan origination fees to previous lower values at any time. Since it is unknown what final action Congress will take regarding student loan origination fees, you cannot accept (if offered) your 2013-2014 Federal Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized student loan using MyUNLV at this time.

Please keep checking your online MyUNLV periodically to see if you have the ability to accept your Federal Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized student loan. You don’t need to call the office inquiring when this will occur as the Financial Aid and Scholarships office does not know when Congress will resolve developing a final Federal budget plan.
