The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is pleased to announce that Dr. Marta Meana, Professor of Psychology, has accepted the position of Dean, UNLV Honors College. Dr. Meana holds B.A.s in Psychology and English Literature, an M.A. in English Literature, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (all from McGill University). She also completed a Clinical Psychology Internship at UCSD and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Women’s Health at the University of Toronto Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Meana has been at UNLV since 1997, having served as Senior Advisor to the President and, most recently, as Interim Dean of the Honors College.
As the Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Meana will provide visionary leadership and guidance to the program and to its high achieving and diverse undergraduate students. As the Honors Dean, she will work closely and collaboratively with university deans, faculty, academic unit staff, and the Vice Presidents to implement the University’s mission and goals. Dr. Meana is committed to working with research-active faculty to build excellent undergraduate academic programs related to UNLV's Honors College and our Tier One goals.
Dr. Meana states, "Working collaboratively with all of the discipline colleges, the Honors College is perfectly positioned to accelerate UNLV’s Tier One progress. The recruitment, education, and grooming of the highest achieving students in the valley and beyond, most of whom remain first generation college students, is an exciting venture that changes lives, raises the standing of the entire campus, and transforms our region. I am thrilled to be a part of this effort."
"I really look forward to working with Marta and building on her vision for the Honors College. In her time as Interim, she has given us a glimpse of her outstanding leadership, organization and communication abilities, and how she can contribute to the Honors College's continuing success." John Valery White.
Dr. Meana will formally take over as Dean immediately, with little transition, given her status as Interim Dean. You can reach Dr. Meana at [email protected].
