The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering Welcomes New Director of Development

Las Vegas – After an extended vacancy of nearly three years, the College of Engineering has hired a new Director of Development. Sara Portzel grew up in Vancouver, Washington and attended Pacific Lutheran University before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. In California she received her M.A. in nonprofit administration from the University of San Francisco.
Sara worked in marketing and development for the Merola Opera Program, an affiliate of San Francisco Opera. She spent the last three years in development at the University of Montana Foundation, Missoula, Montana most recently as Director of Corporation and Foundation Relations. She comes to UNLV with a rich appreciation for higher education and is looking forward to the opportunity to connect with passionate alumni, corporations, and donors who value student success and the advancement of the University and the College of Engineering.
Sara loves travel, is a speed-reader, and enjoys all sorts of experiences ranging from rodeos to wine tasting, to opera. After three full winters in Montana, she is looking forward to the Las Vegas sunshine. Sara officially starts on May 10th, but will start attending events as early as next week. Her new office is located in TBE-A113 within the Dean’s Office. Please come by and introduce yourselves and make Sara feel welcome.
