Global Entrepreneurship Experience Team Takes Contender Title
From a field of eight teams, the Global Entrepreneurship Experience team captured "The Contender" title, a $1,000 cash prize, and bragging rights for a year, including a banner in the Lee Business School courtyard.
The Contender Challenge, patterned after Donald Trump's The Apprentice, was held Oct. 7-10. Students completed daily challenges hosted by various sponsors, which tested their business ethics, marketing, problem-solving, and presentation skills. Sponsors included Wyndam Vacation Ownership, Target Corp., UNLV Career Services and Houldsworth Russo & Company.
Janet Runge, Global Entrepreneurship Experience and LBS competition coordinator, said the contest gives students the opportunity to prepare for competition beyond UNLV.
"The business school sends students all over the country to compete. Ultimately, this contest allows students to practice the skills they'll need in the real world, to be able to make a case for what they want, and communicate it successfully."
Other teams that competed included: American Marketing Association, LBS Ambassadors, Alpha Kappa Psi, Enactus, DECA, Business 103-Section 5 and Business 103-Section 6.
The weeklong challenge culminated in an awards ceremony.
