First UNLV Academic Achievement Gala, April 17th
Posted: April 9, 2014
Join us on the evening of Thursday, April 17 for the first UNLV Academic Achievement Gala. The event will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Cohen Theater in the Student Union, with a presentation of our academic achievement awards. Then at 5:00 p.m, the doors will open for the Gala, in the Student Union Ballroom. This celebration will highlight some of our most significant student and faculty achievements of the 2013-2014 academic year through posters, short videos, and a short program -- in a lounge setting, fashioned to encourage social interaction, accompanied by live music, hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar.
For many years, UNLV has conducted in the spring of each year a celebration of academic achievement at which we recognized outstanding achievement. This has been an important date on our annual calendar, a chance for us to recognize our own improvement year after year in education, research, creative activity, advising and academic support services. This year, as part of UNLV’s sustained initiative towards attaining Tier 1 status, we have upgraded this recognition ceremony into an academic achievement Gala that will highlight the Innovation, Collaboration, and Community Impact at UNLV.
This event will be an interactive experience; participants will not be asked to sit quietly and applaud but rather to move about, interact with our students and your fellow faculty and learn about their work, partake of fine food and spirits, and be an active participant in UNLV's academic advancement towards Tier 1 status.
Join President Snyder, Provost White, Faculty Senate Chair Paul Werth, and Regents Michael Wixom and Richard Trachok to recognize the most outstanding academic achievements of the past year. This will be an innovative, collaborative and impactful community event unlike any other we've ever had at UNLV – and one that we hope indicates our future direction as a community-connected, Tier 1 university.
