Faculty Mentoring Program
Posted: May 17, 2013
The mission of the Faculty Mentoring Program (FMP) is to provide support and information with the aim of facilitating the professional success and satisfaction of faculty. The program coordinates the onboarding of new faculty and matches junior faculty with mentors outside of their department, and offers mentoring training to individuals and groups on special topics. It also provides a clearinghouse for professional development materials and information, as well as networking and peer-interaction opportunities. The program is intended to enhance the recruitment and retention of faculty, to promote inter-disciplinary collaborations, to support and inspire our productive and collegial campus community of scholars and educators, and to promote the UNLV values of trust, respect, collegiality, diversity, and inclusion.
In the first phase of our program, the primary goal is to assist the professional development and campus community integration of our new junior faculty colleagues. Junior faculty have been matched with senior faculty (J/S mentoring teams) and given opportunities throughout the academic year to participate in programs specifically designed to provide resources and information to help them integrate (and form a supportive cohort) into their new positions and UNLV expectations for scholarship, teaching, and service. Alliance mentoring teams and support programming are also extended to other interested faculty.
