Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Member Jean Hertzman Wins Prestigious Education Award

Dr. Jean Hertzman, 2013 UNLV Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Member, was awarded the Chef Herman Breithaupt Award at this year’s I-CHRIE Conference. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions to foodservice education by a chef/educator. The recipient must exhibit high professionalism, demonstrate a strong commitment to hospitality education, and have a record of contributions to International CHRIE and the industry as a chef/educator.
Hertzman is an associate professor and assistant dean of operations for the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. She oversees the food and beverage laboratory facilities, Hotel College Catering, and special events including UNLVino, the college’s largest fundraiser. She also teaches undergraduate foodservice classes and a graduate seminar on hospitality management education, and supports graduate students by chairing professional papers, theses, and dissertations.
She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from UNLV, a MBA from Tulane University, and a B.S. in Hotel Administration from Cornell University. Hertzman’s many honors include induction into the ACF Chefs of Las Vegas Hall of Fame in 2010, and receipt of the Sam and Mary Boyd Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2005 and for service in 2002. She was the 1988 Chef of the Year for the ACF Chefs Las Vegas, and has won two I-CHRIE best paper awards. She is currently vice-president/president-elect of Western Federation CHRIE.
