Respond to a Request
Any UNLV employee receiving a request for records, under the provisions of the Nevada Public Records Act, should promptly direct the request to the Office of Media Relations or ask the requestor to fill out the public records request form.
The public records coordinator will review each request to determine whether the requested documents are public records and identify which campus units are in possession of the records.
The coordinator will work with the requestor and the office responsible for the records throughout the process. This includes tracking and logging requests, requesting and compiling data, preparing responses, consulting with university general counsel, and maintaining official university files required by Nevada System of Higher Education bylaws.
Note: A department receiving a request for public records may ask that the requestor put his or her request in writing for the sake of clarity, but may not mandate it.
