The
2030 Challenge Workshop Series
During the Fall 2006 semester, three workshops were conducted to
complement a simultaneous lecture series at the UNLV School of Architecture
entitled "The 2030 Challenge: Environmental Design in the Face of Climate
Change."
.Bamboo
Building Techniques Workshop
.
This
workshop was co-presented on February 10, 2005 by the acclaimed Colombian
architect Simón Vélez and the NEAT Lab. The goal of this workshop was to
help the participants gain an understanding of bamboo joinery and techniques
of construction. The workshop included a one hour audio/visual presentation
(with 110 participants) followed by a two-hour "hands-on" construction
seminar on bamboo joinery (with 50 participants).
HOPES Roofpond Building Design Workshop
.
This
workshop, which was presented during the 2004 HOPES Ecological Design
Conference at the University of Oregon, covered the fundamentals of Roofpond
Building Design for heating and cooling applications. This workshop also
covered the RP_Performance, which is a user-friendly Microsoft Excel design
tool for roofpond buildings.
