Mission Statement
.
The
Natural Energies Advanced Technologies (NEAT) Laboratory is a research unit
of the School of Architecture pursuing environmentally and culturally
responsible design through the use of appropriate technologies.
.
The
NEAT Lab promotes research that integrates natural phenomena and
local resources and traditions into the design and operation of buildings;
education in the basic interrelationships that exist among humans,
buildings, and the environment; and outreach through actual projects
that enhance the quality of life by way of using appropriate technologies.
Goals

.To
function
as a center of excellence for the research, development, and demonstration
of appropriate technologies.
To promote
widespread use of appropriate illumination, heating, cooling, power
generation, waste management, and water treatment technologies for
buildings.
To
develop
technologies that could be marketable in the shortest possible time to meet
the highest customer and environmental requirements in terms of quality,
price, operation ease, embodied energy, and life cycle.
To
provide
comprehensive solutions through research, outreach projects, and consultancy
services.
To
foster
partnerships with national and international research centers, laboratories,
institutes, and industrial organizations, engaged in the advancement of
environmentally and culturally
responsible design through the use of appropriate technologies.
