Beginning of the Semester Tips
for Faculty Using WebCT

***Click on the tip or the triangle to view important details.***

Student enrolled courses are listed in your MyWebCT area under the heading "2005 Fall"

If you don't see your courses listed under 2005 Fall, submit a WebCT Service Request (https://www.unlv.edu/cgiwrap/diswww/webct/service_req/service_req.php) to request access to your student enrolled courses.

On or before August 29, 2005 (Monday - 1st day of classes), course materials are available to students.

  • If you are NOT working in your student enrolled course shell, and instead are working in a development site (a course listed under "Development Courses") to prepare your fall course, be sure to backup your development site and restore that backup into the student enrolled section. Instructions: (http://www.unlv.edu/infotech/WebCT/Tips/backup_restore.htm)

  • ***Important tip!*** When restoring a backup into your courses, be sure to choose the option to Keep Users. This will retain the students in your student enrolled section for the Fall semester. Choosing another option may result in the transfer of students from the backup file. If that should occur, call 895-0777 and ask for the WebCT Administrator.

  • If you see (Conditional) next to an icon or item in your course, this means that there has been a selective release criteria set on your materials. If you are releasing the items to all of your students, be sure that the Release to: field is left blank. If you fill in this field, students who add the course after you set this criteria will not be able to access your materials. Also, check the dates of the Selective Release to make sure they are accurate.

  • Update Student View - If you are using the content module in WebCT, be sure to click on the Update Student View button (located in your content module or the control panel) to update the entire course. If you add new materials, students will receive the error message that the item has not been made available by the instructor if you fail to Update the student's view.

Student technical assistance

If your student is having trouble logging in or needs technical assistance with WebCT, refer them to the Student Computing Support Services at 895-0761 or http://ccs.unlv.edu/scr/support/. (Instructions for logging in as students can be found here as well)

Adds and drops for students

When a student officially adds or drops the course, he or she will be added or removed to/from your WebCT course within 24 hours.
