Calendar
Calendar allows students, teaching assistants, and instructors to exchange information about class events quickly and effectively. Depending on the calendar settings chosen, both instructors and students can post public calendar entries (visible to everyone in the course) or private ones (visible only to the author). Calendar entries may include links to course content or to external websites, notification of assignment due dates, changes to instructor office hours, or any other scheduling information you wish to record.
To add the calendar to your course:
- From the Control Panel, select Add Page or Tool.
- In the Communication Tools column, click Calendar. The Add Calendar screen appears.
- In the Enter a title for this item text box, enter the title as you want it to appear below the icon.
- Under Decide where to show the link to this item, select where you want the link to be displayed.
- Click Add. Calendar is added to your course.
To add a calendar entry:
- From the Course Menu, click Calendar. The Calendar screen appears.
- Click Add entry. The Add a Calendar Entry screen appears.
- From the Date drop-down lists, select the month, day, and year to which you want to add an entry.
- In the Summary text box, enter a brief description of the entry.
- To add a link to a URL, in the URL text box, enter the full URL.
- To add an internal link to a page of content, from the Internal link drop-down list, select the content page.
- To elaborate on the text in the Summary text box, enter an explanation in the Detail text box.
- To associate a start and end time with the entry (for example, the start time and duration of a meeting), from the Start time and End time drop-down boxes, select the hour and minutes. It is recommended that you leave these times blank.
- Specify the access level:
- To allow all course members to view the entry, select Public.
- To restrict the access so it only appears on your calendar, select Private.
- Note: The default access level is private. For instructions to change the access level, click here.
- Click Add. The Calendar screen appears displaying your new entry.
Note: If you wish to add multiple entries to the calendar at one time, you can import a comma-delimited text file. For instructions on creating and importing this file, please see the Importing Calendar Entries tip sheet.
To edit calendar entries:
- From the Course Menu, click Calendar. The Calendar screen appears.
- In the calendar, click the date of the entry that you want to edit. The View Day screen appears.
- Select the entry you want to edit.
- Click Edit. The Edit a Calendar Entry screen appears.
- Revise your entry as required.
- Click Update. The View Day screen appears displaying the edited entry.
- To return to the Calendar screen, click View month.
To delete calendar entries:
- From the Course Menu, click Calendar. The Calendar screen appears.
- In the calendar, click the date of the entry that you want to delete. The View Day screen appears.
- Select the entry you want to delete. Note: To delete all calendar entries, do not make a selection.
- Delete the entries:
- To delete an entry for the day, click Delete. A warning message appears.
- To delete all entries, click Delete all from day. A warning message appears.
- Click OK. The View Day screen refreshes and the entry is deleted.
- To return to the Calendar screen, click View month.
