Master of Health Physics; Medical Physics Option

History and Program Statistics

The master of health physics program was approved in 1995, with medical physics being an integral part of the curriculum since 2000. The medical physics option received CAMPEP accreditation in August 2011. In addition to a rigorous didactic curriculum, the program offers clinical experiences through a number of affiliate sites, including Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, Varian Medical Systems World Wide Training and Education Center, and Nevada Imaging Centers. The current program director is Steen Madsen, Ph.D.

The first applications for the CAMPEP-accredited program were received during 2012. Relevant statistics are presented in Table 1.

Due to its short period of existence, program statistics are relatively sparse. The first two students graduated in spring 2013. Neither has taken the board exams. One student is applying for a residency position, while the other is applying for entry into a medical physics Ph.D. program.
