Summit Panel Bios: Rick Van Diepen
Rick is the Executive Director for Green Chips, a collaborative non-profit organization dedicated to creating a more livable, equitable, and sustainable environment for the residents and visitors of Southern Nevada. Rick's responsibilities include organizational and board development, PR and community outreach, fundraising, and network-building. Rick left a successful 20-year career in architecture to be able to pursue his passion for sustainability and community development.
Rick's professional experience in architecture covered all aspects of the building process from urban planning and programming; conceptual design through permitting, construction documents and construction administration; project management, sustainable design and LEED certification, marketing, and team management. Rick's primary emphasis has always been on designing cutting edge and highly sustainable projects; several of which have won design awards and received national recognition for the integration of sustainable design practices. Rick most recently held the position of Associate Principal and firm-wide Sustainability Manager for PGAL's nine offices in the US and Mexico.
Rick also has had experience leading and helping to develop community-based nonprofit organizations having served as board member and two terms as President with the US Green Building Council Nevada Chapter. Rick was a board member for Green Chips prior to accepting the executive director position and has also served on boards for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Las Vegas Chapter, Citizen Alert, and Nevadans For Clean And Reliable Energy (NCARE).
A Leadership LV graduate (2008), Rick has been an active member of the community doing volunteer work and providing pro-bono design services to several local service organizations. Prior to starting his career in the private sector Rick worked for three months as a volunteer architect and facilities planner for HCJB World Community Radio in Quito Ecuador.
