Design by Architects
The University has many design and construction activities where architects are required. A determination to hire an architect will be generally made by the Office of Planning and Construction.
Planning and Construction is the campus agency authorized
to contact consultants and/or contractors to perform pro-bono
or compensated work for projects funded from grants, gifts,
or non-appropriated funds. Commitments to use Facilities Services
staff to construct projects requires the prior approval of
the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and
Planning. If required, a program planning committee will be
appointed by the Provost or other appropriate VP to oversee
the projects' compliance with the mission and operational
plan of the University (major renovation or new construction
only). Project design (in-house or consultant) will be conducted
under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Design
or Assistant Director of Construction. The construction phase
of any project will be assigned to a Construction Project
Coordinator, who will oversee bidding, contract administration,
and project closeout.
To initiate a request for project design and/or construction of this type of project, please forward a interdepartmental request describing the scope of the work. This request should go directly to the Office pf Planning and Construction. All project requests assigned to Planning and Construction are reviewed and assigned every Monday. A preliminary assessment of the scope will be made at the Monday review to determine if the project will be reviewed and signed by the Provost or the appropriate vice president before a work assignment to make the estimate is made.
Please contact the Director, Planning and Construction at ext. 52500 if you need more information. A guide to project planning and construction issues is available by clicking here.
