UNLV's Cystic Fibrosis "Great Strides Walk"

UNLV's Cystic Fibrosis

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Business 103 class along with The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting a "Great Strides Walk" in order to raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis disease.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a serious and sometimes destructive genetic disease that affect’s approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States alone. Over 70,000 people are affected worldwide. This life threatening disease caused by a defective gene produces thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, which can lead to dangerous infections that can be harmful. People with CF spend around four hours every day of their lives on inhaled treatments just to help them breathe. Not only do they have inhaled treatments to deal with every day, they must also consume hundreds of pills a week. These treatments can cost upwards of around $300,000 a year. The frightening fact about this ailment is one out of every 30 American’s are carriers of this awful sickness.
