The UNLV Choral Ensembles continue their concert season with a performance by the Women’s Chorus, Varsity Men’s Glee Club and contemporary a cappella ensemble Lamprophony. Jocelyn K. Jensen and David B. Weiller conduct the performance, accompanied by pianists Barbara Buer and Alec Bart as well as a string quartet and jazz trio.
The Women’s Chorus and Varsity Men’s Glee Club, established over 20 years ago, represent students from throughout the campus as well as alumni and community members. The women perform works by Felix Mendelssohn, George Gershwin and Ola Gjielo, as well as Harry Warren’s pop standard, At Last. The men interpret songs by Francis Poulenc, Randall Stroope and Eric Whitacre, as well as a Jamaican folk song, 'Hol’ You Han.
Lamprophony is a contemporary a cappella ensemble led by music students Gianni Becker and Cheyna Alexander. Now in it’s third year, they will present Animal by Neon Trees, Fix You and Titanium.
The university choral ensembles enjoy a reputation for vibrant performances. The choirs recently were praised for a concert described as “…glorious, yet disciplined. The choruses performed with unaffected charisma.” Annual tours have encompassed the southwestern United States as well as Hawaii, New York, Mexico, and Canada.
