Presenting Rex J. Rowley, author of Everyday Las Vegas: Local Life in a Tourist Town.
In his book, Everyday Las Vegas: Local Life in a Tourist Town, Rex J. Rowley takes a close look at what life is like for locals in Sin City, a place the rest of the world sees as an exotic, even decadent vacation destination. Using interviews with more than one hundred local residents, Rex Rowley, a Las Vegas native, examines the routines of everyday life in a place that has long sold itself as the #1 escape from reality.
From a broader perspective, Everyday Las Vegas considers the ways people perceive a place as insiders or outsiders, a dichotomy that exists in any place where tourism plays a major part in the local economy. It offers insights into what Las Vegas can teach us about life in other cities and contributes to our understanding of how people relate to places and how the personality of a place influences the lives and attitudes of people who reside there.
Author Rex J. Rowley is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of Kansas, and is currently in the Department of Geography-Geology at Illinois State University.
