The College of Liberal Arts presents the University Forum Lecture presents "From Water Rites to Water Rights: Exploring the Pueblo Worldview with Visual Metaphors" a discussion by Kelley Hays-Gilpin, associate professor, department of anthropology, Northern Arizona University

This presentation explores the visual depictions of traditional ecological knowledge about water resources in the ancient Southwest and Mesoamerica. Evidence seen in painted pottery, rock art, and mural paintings in the Puebloan Southwest and Mesoamerica reveals ancient, indigenous metaphors for dynamic connections among ground water, surface water, clouds, rain and snow. This presentation discusses these images and metaphors and how they relate to the worldview of these past societies.
