The College of Liberal Arts presents the University Forum Lecture: Lou Harrison’s Violin Concerto - A pre concert lecture by Gary Cook, professor emeritus of music, University of Arizona
Lou Harrison’s Violin Concerto was completed in 1959 and uses an orchestra of unique percussion instruments as accompaniment. The concerto is a celebrated work and recognized as one of the defining 20th century works by this prominent composer. How do clock coils, galvanized washtubs and a metallophone made from coffee cans make serious music? These answers will be given in the lecture followed immediately by a performance of the work; separate admission fee.
