University Forum Lecture: Life Experiences & Experiences of Art
When: Nov. 1, 2012, 7:30pm - 8:30pmCampus Location: Marjorie Barrick Museum / Harry Reid Center
Office/Remote Location: Auditorium
Join the College of Liberal Arts in the University Forum Lecture "Life Experiences and Experiences of Art: Which Come First?" a talk by Kendall Walton, professor, Department of Philosophy and School of Art and Design, University of Michigan.
Works of art expand our conceptual horizons, helping us understand situations and experiences different from any we have encountered in real life. On the other hand, our ability to appreciate art is limited by our actual past experiences: You can’t appreciate a love poem if you have never been in love. Our speaker will explore how each of these observations applies to our experiences of various kinds of art.
This event is free and open to the public.
