Join the College of Liberal Arts in the University Forum Lecture "For a Fistful of Movies: How Italians Won the Western" a talk by Flavia Brizio-Skov, Professor of Italian, University of Tennessee.
In the 1960s, spaghetti-western became an international phenomenon, harvesting millions of dollars at the box office and gaining recognition among the world-wide public. Yet, critics have generally dismissed the Italian-style western as a form of evasion or escapism, labeling it as “edible entertainment for the masses.” The presenter will provide a more thorough picture of the spaghetti-western by analyzing the plurality of messages that this genre conveyed.
This event is free and open to the public.
