Join the College of Liberal Arts in the University Forum Lecture, "Europe in Crisis: the Economy, the Public, and the Welfare State" a talk by Christine Lipsmeyer, associate professor, Department of Political Science, Texas A & M University.
Does the debt crisis in Europe mean “the end of the European welfare system as we know it”? To answer this question, we need to understand that although the EU has a common market, welfare assistance varies widely across Europe. During economic downturns, diversity increases as countries shield their citizens in varying degrees from the main fall-out of the crises. Are these experiences so diverse that we cannot speak of a common European social net?
This event is free and open to the public.
