University Forum: Are People of Color More Homophobic?When: Feb. 5, 2013, 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Campus Location: Marjorie Barrick Museum / Harry Reid Center
Office/Remote Location: Auditorium
Join the College of Liberal Arts in the University Forum Lecture, "Are People of Color More Homophobic? Using New Data to Tell a Different Story About Being LGBT and a Racial Minority in America" a talk by Juan Battle, professor of Sociology, Public Health & Urban Education, and coordinator of the Africana Studies Certificate program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
All too often, we are led to believe that, because of strong religious ties, people of color are more homophobic. Using findings from the Social Justice Sexuality Project – one of the largest national surveys of Black, Latina/o and Asian and Pacific Islander, and multiracial lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people – Professor Battle offers a very different story.
This event is free and open to the public.
